Summer 2024, Drake releases 100 GB of content on a platform called 100gigs.org. At the time, everything is downloadable. I rush to archive it all onto a hard drive. Inside: hours of studio sessions, backstage footage, concerts, vacations, plans of his jet, visual cover drafts, and three unreleased tracks.
Curious, I want to see it all! We’ve just wrapped editing « DJ Mehdi: Made In France », and overconfident, I think I can sort through it all in 24 hours. It ends up taking me a week: 80% of the footage is raw and nearly unwatchable as is.
Still, I couldn’t stop after that. I first thought about making a music video for the track "Housekeeping Knows", but my edit eventually turned into an 18-minute "mood film", sitting somewhere between a music video and a documentary. The concept: build a piece entirely from the platform’s content. Something cohesive and digestible for fans.
One month of non-stop work. With the help of my friend Thibaut de Longeville, we reached out to Oliver El Khatib, Drake’s manager and co-founder of OVO Sounds. We sent him the film, not expecting much. He replied immediately, saying they loved it and wanted to release the film officially on OVO’s 100gigs.org platform.
A few weeks later, Drake’s summer turned into an unexpected shit storm of events, and we completely lost touch with the team. I guess priorities shifted… The film never comes out.
One year later, I’m happy to finally share this film, presenting my humble interpretation of the "100gigs" project while paying tribute to this trailblazing artist whose music and visual works have already left an indelible mark in the history of hip-hop and global pop culture.
